New Carlisle Fire Crews quickly extinguished a blazing garage Thursday evening.

About 9:45 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to 222 Drake Ave. for a garage fire with explosion hazard, and the garage was fully involved when they arrived.

New Carlisle Fire Chief Steve Trusty said that there were two small explosions in the garage.

“Our crews did an excellent job of stopping the fire from reaching the home,” said Trusty.

The residents were displaced because power had been shut off.

The fire was reportedly called in by passers-by.

Trusty said that the origin of the fire is “undetermined at this time,” and he could not set a dollar loss.

There was a vehicle in the garage that was destroyed. Trusty said a shed and siding on the home were damaged.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Fire crews from Bethel Twp (Clark) and Pike Twp. assisted.
