Clark State Community College asks members of the Clark County Community to participate in The Springfield Community Book Study of the New York Times Best Seller The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Color Blindness by Michelle Alexander.

The goal of the book study is to increase public awareness of the far-reaching, life altering effects on the War on Drugs. They hope to engage participants of different ages and backgrounds in the discussion. Participants may form their owns groups of six to eight members to discuss a chapter a week starting the week of April 3, 2016 through May 15, 2016. Each session should last approximately two hours for the six-week period. All participants will meet at Clark State the week of May 16, 2016 for a culminating event.

Each group will have a host to provide guidance to the group. Hosts must attend a training session on March 24, 2016 or March 31, 2016.

The New Jim Crow can be purchased for $15.95 at the Clark State Bookstore, at 570 E. Leffel Lane, 45505 in Springfield. Bookstore hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A free discussion guide is included.
