If you are over the age of 65 and live alone or are disabled, the Clark County Sheriff has a new program that can help you to stay in your home longer. Senior Safe and Sound “R U OK?” is designed to check on residents who need a daily wellness check.

There is no cost for this program and it is available to all residents of the county including those living in the City of Springfield. Participants can designate a time for a phone call each day for a wellness check. Once the participant answers and presses the “appropriate button” the system will recognize that they are in fact OK and no further action is needed. If an incorrect button is pressed the system will notify the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center and a deputy or law enforcement officer will be dispatched to the residence on an “R U OK” response. If there is no response at the residence when the automated call is made, the system will also dispatch a deputy to the home.

As a participant in the program, individuals will need to provide emergency contact information should it be needed. The Sheriff’s Office would keep this information confidential.

The forms needed are located here. You can also contact the Sheriff’s Office located at 120 N. Fountain Avenue in Springfield for the forms 24 hours a day. After completing the forms, call 328-2565 and a deputy will stop by to them up. The resident will be placed on the call list and begin getting daily calls. This program is the next step in ensuring the safety and well-being of the aging population in our county.

It should be noted that this is not the same as the Mad River Township Safe and Sound program which is run by the Enon / Mad River Township Fire and EMS dispatchers. That program is open to residents of Mad River Township only and also provides a lockbox to participants should an emergency arise. To learn more about this program, contact 864-1994.

The countywide program is being coordinated by Mike Combs. If you would like more information for yourself, a family member or friend, call 521-2073 or you can download the file here.
