On February 21, 2017 at the regular monthly meeting of the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Clark, Greene and Madison Counties, Clark County Commissioner Melanie Flax Wilt administered the oath of office to newly appointed Board member and Springfield native, Stephen Massey. Lauren Ross, Chairperson of the Mental Health & Recovery Board introduced County Commissioner Flax Wilt and Massey. Flax Wilt, has deep roots in the community as the granddaughter of former Clark County Commissioner Gordon Flax and is a local business owner/entrepreneur. She has filled the seat vacated by longtime Commissioner John Detrick and added that she was “happy to provide this oath, which was her first in her new role as Commissioner.”

Massey proudly shared that he was “born and raised in Springfield”, is a graduate of Springfield City Schools and now wishes to give back by “serving the underserved.” Massey has years of experience working in the substance abuse community, is currently employed with CitiLookout co-facilitating the domestic violence program, Journey to Freedom, and is excited to begin as the Director of Advocates for the newly awarded funding for a trauma recovery center at CitiLookout. The center is one of five trauma recovery centers in Ohio awarded by Attorney General Mike Dewine to help victims of violence recover and access local services.

Massey completes the 8th Clark County volunteer member position of the 18-member Mental Health & Recovery Board, previously occupied by volunteer, Steve Shelton. In addition to Massey and Ross, other Clark County board members are Kimberly Michael, Ben Harrison, Marilyn Demma, Lexie Boblitt, James Hutchins, and Heather Corbin. The Board plans, funds and evaluates mental health, alcohol and other drug services for the residents of Clark, Greene and Madison Counties. More than 60% of the public funding for local mental health and alcohol and drug services comes from local levies.
