The Clark County Combined Health District recognizes Healthy Weight Week January 18-22, 2016. Healthy Weight Week is a time to celebrate healthy diet-free living habits that last a lifetime and prevent eating and weight problems. It’s all about pursuing livable and sustainable healthy lifestyles through eating well.

Issues with being overweight and obesity can lead to more serious health risks for example:

  • Type 2 Diabetes – blood sugar levels are above normal
  • Heart disease and strokes – hardening of the arteries, blood flow to brain stops
  • Kidney disease – kidneys are damaged and cannot filter properly

Making small changes to your daily routine can lead to a healthier life and help control your weight. Suggested changes should include:

Move More - The CDC suggests that the average American adult exercise for two hours and 30 minutes per week. This can be as easy and fun as cleaning up your house, swimming, dancing, or going for a brisk walk.

Drink more WATER– drinking more water can help your body rid itself of waste and can also help you feel full in between meals.

Cook a nutritious meal - incorporating each food group into your daily life. If you aren’t sure what to include on your plate, check out resources like www.ChooseMyPlate.gov.

Finally, lowering your stress level is easier said than done, but can have a big impact on your physical health. The CDC suggests the following tips to manage stress:

  • Participate in social events
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Avoid drugs and alcohol
  • Confide in loved ones
