On October 11, 2016, Bethel Township Miami Trustees held a public hearing to split and rezone 23.87 acres at 6160 U.S. 40. Jeannine Friend requested to split off 2.933 acres and to rezone the parcel from A-2 General Agriculture to B-3 Business. The remaining 20.937 acres would remain A-2 General Agriculture to be used for agricultural and residential purposed. The lot, located .5 miles west of Brandt on the south side of US 40 would be used for a carryout business. No township residents protested the rezoning.

Therefore, at the regular township trustees meeting, the trustees unanimously approved the rezoning. The rezoning will go into effect in 30 days at which time; Friend can proceed with development of the property.

For the Fire Department, Fire Chief Andy Ehrhart reported that the department made 14 runs between September 24, 2016 and October 7, 2016. The department responded to nine emergency medical service (EMS) calls and two vehicle accidents, one with injuries.

For Planning and Zoning, Planning and Zoning Director Marty Caskey reported that he received and issued two zoning applications. The first was for a pole barn at 6185 S Dayton-Brandt Road. The second was for an accessory building at 7490 SR 201.

He also announced that the Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on October 27, 2016 to hear two variance requests and one conditional use. The first request is to build a residence on a lot that is smaller than permitted at 5016 SR 201. The second request and the conditional use request are for 6365 SR 201. The variance is to building a house smaller than 1500 square feet. The conditional use is to permit a second residence on the parcel.

In addition, Caskey reported that he has two zoning amendments in progress. One is to split off and rezone 4.01 acres from the 10.024 acres parcel at 5700 SR 571 and to change the zoning from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 - Domestic Agriculture. The second request is to join the 4.03 acres to an adjoining the 10.1-acre property.

In announcements, Ehrhart reminded the trustees that the township will hold a community spaghetti dinner and a Fire/EMS levy presentation on October 26, 2016 from 5:30 pm. to 7:30 pm.

The trustees will meet for a workshop meeting at 8:30 a.m. to discuss the Phonton Water Project and on October 25, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. for their regular session.
