At the May 9, 2017 meeting of the Bethel Township Miami Trustees, the trustees passed a resolution renewing the contract with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield for health insurance coverage for township officials and full-time employees effective June 1, 2017. Under the contract, elected officials and full-time employees who are enrolled in Medicare are eligible for reimbursement of premiums of part B and D of the Medi-gap policy. In addition, the resolution authorizes contributions of $3400 for a single employee and $6740 for a family plan to the employees’ HSA Account or HRA Account, whichever is applicable.

They also passed a resolution renewing the contract with United Health Care, Inc. for life insurance for township officials and full-time employees effective June 1, 2017.

In regular business, the trustees approved a payment of $9000 to Access Engineering for work to date on the design of the Phoneton water system.

They also passed a resolution that amends the salaries for the trustees and fiscal officer for 2017 to include a 5% increase for 2016 and 2017 for any officer elected after September 29, 2015 as specified by HB 64. As a result Trustee Gary Biggs salary increased to $13,612 from $12,964 and Fiscal Officer Deborah Watson increased to $23,396 from $21,221 for 2017. The employees will be reimbursed retroactive to January 1, 2017.

For the Fire Department, Fire Chief Andy Ehrhart reported that the Fire Department made 16 runs from April 22, 107 through May 5, 2017. The runs included 11 emergency medical service runs. They also responded to a call to search for a lost person and a call for a combustible liquid spill.

For Planning and Zoning, Planning and Zoning Director Marty Caskey reported that four zoning certificates were applied for and four issued. These include two new residences at 5770 SR 571 and 7663 US 40, one request for a shed at 4270 Rudy Road and a request for a sign at 4485 Gibson Road.

In addition, Caskey reported that the request from Ralph Seibert to rezone the 4.378 acre parcel at 6625 Cobaugh Road from I-1 Light Industrial to R-1AAA Residential has been tabled at Seibert’s request. He also announced that the Bethel Zoning Commission will meet on May 25, 2017 to hear a request to rezone a parcel at 8390 Wildcat Road from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 Domestic Agriculture.

In Zoning Enforcement, one complaint was reported, which Caskey resolved.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for June 6, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the Township Meeting Room.
