To begin the 2018 year, two new members were appointed to the Northwestern Board of Education; welcoming Dr. Kevin Macy and Dr. Leigh Taylor to Northwestern Schools for deliberation over the board’s many financial and administrative responsibilities.

When asked for comment on her upcoming responsibilities for the board, Dr. Taylor had to say: “I’m just looking forward to serving the community.”

Dr. Macy was quoted on his position with the board: “I look forward to bringing Northwestern into the next four years and improving upon what we’ve been doing addressing all of the issues at hand.”

Dr. Macy is a working physician for Springfield Center Family Medicine, and Dr. Taylor is a licensed and working Chiropractor for Taylor Family Wellness Chiropractic in Huber Heights. Both were sworn into their new positions for the board, making their duties as members official as of Wednesday.

As for the remaining members, Andy Gundolf was appointed as the President of the board after obtaining the unanimous nomination by members present. Board member Libby Hastings was similarly appointed to the position of Vice President.

The board held a tax hearing to authorize this year’s Tax Budget, drawing attention to both Northwestern’s Substitute Levy and Permanent Improvement levy, which both have an end date of 2021 and will be up for renewal.

A service fund of $5,000 was set aside for the purposes of board member conference attendances throughout the year of 2018.

All of the Board’s public meetings will be listed on the Northwestern Local Schools’ website, with the first of the year taking place on January 12th, at 6:00 PM in the Elementary School Library.
