Bethel Township (Twp.) Trustees held a regular meeting on Aug. 9 at the Bethel Twp. House in Medway. Trustees Don Minton and Dave Phares were present, Trustee Nancy Brown was absent. Also attending were Melanie Cochran (Fiscal Officer), Ray Nelson (Township Coordinator), and Assistant Bethel Township Fire Chief, Brian Ludwick.

The trustees declared the property located at 10360 W. National Rd. Parcel #0100500021000111 a nuisance.

It was also determined that the Township would spend $100.00 to once again enter into a cooperative purchasing program with the Ohio Department of Administrative Services (ODAT). The Cooperative Purchasing Program gives the Township the benefits and costs savings of buying goods and services through state contracts.

Under Bethel Twp. Fire Department business, the Trustees approved entering into a contract with P&R Communications for the purpose of re-programming 41 radios for a total cost of $2,882.40. The Trustees also voted to spend a total of $7,940.24 to purchase three MARCS radios used for a two weeks at the 2016 Republican National Convention. The slightly-used radios are being purchased from Motorola Solutions. According to Ludwick, the Township is saving over $10,000 since brand-new MARCS radios typically cost $6,000.00 each.

The Trustees also approved paying $5,863.44 to Fire Apparatus for pump repairs on Engine 54, as well as $2115.35 for Medic repairs.

The resignation of Kurtis Triplett from his Bethel Twp. Fire Department “Pay-Per-Call” position was accepted by the Trustees. The Trustees then voted to reinstate Tami Ferris into the Bethel Twp. Fire Department’s Pay-Per-Call program.

The Trustees discussed whether or not to authorize spending $2,200 for Capital Electric to order a spare light pole and fixture for use in Medway. Due to the cost of the items, the decision was made to just order a light pole and fixture as needed instead of ordering a spare.

Business pertaining to the Extra-Duty contract recently proposed by Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly was tabled until the next meeting when all Trustees are present.
