The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on State Route 41, two tenths of a mile north of State Route 235.

At approximately 5:09am on February 6th, 2017 a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Logan H. Voorhees 18, of Springfield, Ohio was traveling northbound on State Route 41. Mr. Voorhees was in the process of passing another vehicle when it struck a 2016 Honda CRV driven by Linda Stafford 66 of Troy, Ohio. The Civic was then struck by the vehicle he was trying to pass, a 2003 Ford pick-up truck driven by Jackie Kibler 55 of Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. Stafford was transported by Care Flight to Miami Valley Hospital. Mr. Kibler was also taken to Miami Valley Hospital by Medics. Mr. Voorhees was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both speed and improper passing appear to be factors in the crash. Seat belts being worn by both transported parties significantly reduced their injuries. Mr. Voorhees was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The crash closed part of State Route 41 for approximately five hours. Any inquiries or information reference the crash investigation can be directed to Trooper Jacob A. Lambdin of the Springfield Highway Patrol Post.

The Springfield Post was assisted at the scene by the Clark County Sheriff’s office and the Pike Township, Elizabeth Township and New Carlisle Township Fire and EMS. The Ohio Department of Transportation also assisted at the scene.

Any other factors contributing to this crash are being analyzed and investigated at this time.
