The “Summer Nights at the Stillhouse” concert series continues from 6:00pm to 11:00pm on July 30 when New Carlisle’s historic Indian Creek Distillery presents “The New Old-Fashioned.” Indian Creek Distillery is located at 7095 Staley Road, in New Carlisle. There is a $10.00 cover charge to enter the building. Concert goers are urged to take their own chairs. Mohawk Grill will have food available as well.

The New Old-Fashioned plays a mix of Rock & Roll, Americana, and Alternative Country music.

Founding member, David Payne, says the band is excited to be appearing for the first time at the Indian Creek Distillery in New Carlisle. The band plays in the greater Dayton area and throughout the Midwest.

The band counts among its many influences: Pearl Jam, the Stone Temple Pilots, the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Credence Clearwater Revival, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and various Country artists.

The New Old Fashioned includes Payne (Vocals, Guitar, Piano), Kent Montgomery (Guitar, Vocals), and Tom Blackbern (Bass, Vocals), with percussionist, Matt Oliver, later joining the group. Payne and Montgomery played as solo artists before forming the band, giving the musicians a new creative outlet for performing some of the songs they had written and played individually.

The members The New Old-Fashioned grew up in the Xenia area, where Payne says they “cut their teeth playing in high school bands” before playing alone and in private musical groups. Payne says the bandmates are “best friends,” and their favorite thing about performing is playing together to audiences who “appreciate what we do.”

When not playing music, Montgomery works in marketing, Blackbern is a theatrical director, Oliver works with at risk youth, and Payne is a barista at New Carlisle’s own Penny Lane Art Gallery and Café.

The New Old-Fashioned’s popularity is reflected in the busy performance schedule it is enjoying this summer, which can be found on the band’s website. Payne says the band appreciates the tremendous support it has received both locally and on social media, “We have the best fans, many of which have become good friends.”
