The New Carlisle Public Library hired new Director Beth Freeman. Freeman started at the library on April 24, 2017. She comes to the library from Tipp City Library where she worked as the Adult Services Librarian.

Freeman, originally from a suburb of Cleveland, attended Bowling Green State University from which she graduated with a degree in Literature. She then moved to several different areas in the country as a military spouse. She worked at several different companies using her communication and writing skills as an office manager for 10 years. The companies included a financial advisory firm, a credit card processing firm and a psychologist.

Freeman said, “I realized that I didn’t want to be an office manager forever. I wanted to do something that I was passionate about.” Therefore, she applied to Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to study their online program to earn a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (MILS). Within 14 months, she had earned her MILS and began working for the West Florida Public Library System near Pensacola. She worked there for six months before moving back to Ohio. She said, “We came back to Ohio because I wanted to live in a state that values libraries.”

She found the job in the Tipp City Library and worked there for four years before coming to the NC Public Library.

She decided to take the job with the NC Library for several reasons including an opportunity for advancement as well as growing her skills in both her career and giving back to the community.

Freeman’s immediate plans as the director are to listen, learn and talk to as many people as possible in the library itself and in the community. She said, “I would like to enlarge our adult outreach programs and to provide some home-based programs.” She added “The home-based programs could include home delivery of books as well more adult programs. I want to learn about what the community needs and wants and try to meet those needs.”

An open house will be held at a date to be announced so that the community can meet Freeman.
