The Cattle Zone Restaurant and Bar located at 6001 Lower Valley Pike just north of the Village of Enon has quickly become popular for their new look and affordable menu. They have an active Facebook Page showing that they opened their doors on May 12 of this year and already have over 970 people who “like” their page.

Brothers Tim and Jason Ball along with their partner Doug Saunders offer a variety of appetizers on the menu, but one of the best just might be a memory of a visit to the south with Boiled Peanuts. The top of the line steak is a Sirloin cooked to order with two sides for just $9.99. If you aren’t in the mood for steak, you can order grilled chicken, catfish and chips of a chop. There are also a variety of salads and sandwiches to fill you up as well. They have a kids menu, but everything indicates you need to have the kiddos home and ready for bed after 9 pm so the adults can enjoy the place. Jason explained that they believe in buying quality local ingredients for their menu.

On Saturday night the new business hosted a bachelor party and plan to hold a number of special occasions in the coming months including weddings. There is a full bar and a dance floor with ample seating. Outside provides a gazebo and shelter house suitable for special occasions along with small tables for other customers to enjoy.

Although they have only been open a couple of weeks, they jumped right in to help out the community by hosting the “Take a Ride for Collin” event on Saturday, May 20 from 9 to midnight. They made an exception and allowed the kiddos to stick around till 10 so they could help raise funds to support Collin Griffin a 13 year old who attends Tecumseh Middle School. Collin is fighting a rare form of childhood cancer and as we all know, it can get really expensive trying to keep the home fires burning while family members stay in Cincinnati during his multiple treatment sessions.

Collin has taken on the fight of his life against Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). This extremely rare form of childhood cancer is found only in about 350 cases per year here in the United States. It was first noted in 1854 but not described in a publication until 1946. It affects children under the age of 21 and is more common in boys and typically found in children under age five.

RMS can develop in almost any part of the body because it involves skeletal muscle cells that control the voluntary activities. There is little information as to why the cells become cancerous but they are literally found in every part of the body meaning the cancer is from head to toe. As is typical of the cancer, Collin had a lump in his neck leading to a diagnosis and treatment plan.

Collin is the son of Erin and Robert Griffin of New Carlisle. He has an older sister and brother and a brother who is younger. The family has a strong desire to fight the cancer and that helps Collin to keep moving forward with his treatment. There is a goal of raising $20,000 plus to help the family. In the coming weeks, Collin will be facing an extended stay in the hospital in Cincinnati as his doctors try to solve the puzzle of his cancer. His mom will be by his side during his daily treatments but reported on Saturday that his scans have showed some improvement.

For a donation of $3 or more, guests could take a ride on the mechanical bull brought in especially for the fundraiser. All of the proceeds went directly to the Griffin family to help with their expenses. No family takes this journey alone and the good folks at Cattle Zone stepped up to join the team.
