K of C TAC Enterprises donationNew Carlisle’s Knights of Columbus (K of C) Council 6144 recently made an $804 charitable donation to TAC Industries, a nonprofit organization serving the Greater Springfield Area. The donation was the culmination of the K of C’s annual fundraising efforts used to benefit a local organization that serves individuals with developmental disabilities.

K of C Council 6144 member and fundraising campaign chairman, Mr. Americo Velez, says the K of C is Catholic Christian Fraternal organization dedicated to the precepts of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism within the church and community at large. Mr. Velez says the K of C Council 6144 chose to support TAC Enterprises because the organization serves Clark, Champaign, and Green counties and “provides its clients with opportunities to take pride in themselves and their work.”

According to its website, TAC Enterprises “provides employment, habilitation, health, and community services for individuals with substantial developmental or physical disabilities.” Clients with TAC Enterprises manufacture air cargo nets, wiping cloths, and cement lawn ornaments designed by St. Paris artist, Mr. Jay Risner. In 2005, TAC Enterprises became the sole source supplier of air cargo nets to the United States Air Force. TAC Enterprises also recently began producing hydroponically-grown fancy lettuces and culinary herbs, which are used by many local restaurants, including Young’s Dairy.

Mr. Velez says the New Carlisle K of C will continue to support TAC Enterprises in the future and will also consider making donations to other community-based organizations that serve and support local, developmentally challenged citizens.
