Mrs. Valeta (Val) Carsey (née Moody), of New Carlisle, OH, born on Flag Day in 1933, passed away on Veterans Day, Friday, November 11, 2016 at the age of 83.

Val was born to parents Leon and Mary Helen Moody on June 14, 1933 in Burns, Wyoming. She grew up as the eldest of five in Fort Lupton, Colorado. She was an Air force wife, moving around the country to different posts for many years with her three children.

Val was a career civil servant with the Veterans Administration and, as an avid gardener, the first woman elected president of the Phoenix, Arizona Men’s Garden Club. She loved gardening, reading novels, baking desserts and playing cards, especially pinochle. Val is survived by her daughter, Danita Carsey and Son-in-law, Rick Brest. She is preceded in death by her sons, Kevin and Dan Carsey; her parents, Leon and Helen; her sisters, Cleone Lundblom, Glenda and Nila Moody and her brother, Marvin Moody.

Cremation will take place the week of November 14. The family is grateful for condolences, but it was Val’s wish that no service be held. Please direct donations to the local food pantry in lieu of flowers.
