Slice of Heaven 0430 013

Major Doug Couch of Tecumseh High School’s JROTC recently opened the Enon’s newest pizza place, and with plans to celebrate their grand opening this weekend, Slice of Heaven Pizzeria intends to provide the community with good service, great flavor, and a family-friendly atmosphere.

The Couch family, who launched their business in the former Fox’s Pizza location on North Xenia Drive, said they’ve been “pleasantly surprised” by the amount of business and positive feedback they’ve received from customers so far, even though the official grand opening hasn’t happened yet.

Slice of Heaven is truly a family affair for the Couches, as we were greeted by at least five of them at the store last weekend during our interview. Doug and Brenda Couch, along with Doug’s brother Ken Couch and his wife Shaedra, operate the business with the help of their children Ashley, Brittany, Kristen, Monshare, Tyler, and Brittany’s husband Matthew. Together, the Couch brothers have around 30 years of experience working in the pizza industry.

Doug, Brenda, and Ken are all graduates of Greenon High School, and Doug once worked at the store back when it was Fox’s.

“We’re going to focus on making this place what it was in 1999,” he said.

Doug said he and Brenda have kept an eye on the business over the years in hopes that it would go up for sale, and were very close to buying the business several years ago when it did appear on the market, however, those plans fell through. They said it was just chance when their son Tyler happened to drive by the location and saw the “For Sale” sign taped to the front door.

Slice of Heaven strives to provide an environment where families can feel comfortable dining in, as the restaurant does not serve any alcohol.

The Couches said the flavor of their pizza is unrivaled anywhere within a 30-mile radius, as they serve only a special four-cheese blend on their pies. They noted that customers ordering pizzas with more than one topping will find their toppings baked underneath the cheese instead of on top, which they said makes it cook better as well as sealing in the flavor.

In addition to their pizzas, they’re also serving up wings, spaghetti, strombolis, hoagies, desserts, and other sides. Their “Big John” pizza, named in honor of Doug and Ken’s Uncle John who passed away in the late 1980s, includes 21 slices of pizza. Their Goliath pizza is the most massive on the menu however, measuring in at 25 whopping inches.

The restaurant’s grand opening is set for this coming Saturday, May 7, and will include a delivery special of a large, one-topping pizza for $8. The phone number for the business stays the same as the former Fox’s, at 937-864-3663, and the hours are set for Monday through Thursday from 4 to 10; Fridays from 4 to 11; and Saturdays from 11 to 11.

The Couches asked the community to keep an eye out for “Big Cheesy,” the restaurant’s mascot, this weekend as he frolics around the parking lot. While Big Cheesy is a giant slice of pizza, the family asked their patrons to keep an eye out for “Little Cheesy” hidden somewhere inside the restaurant, and youngsters can exchange the little pizza slice for a goodie bag behind the counter if they find him.

“We’re very concerned about hometown value—we all have a personal interest in this place,” said Brenda.
