They were oh so close......

The Tecumseh girls’ track team fell just 1.5 points short of winning the Clark County Championships last Friday, as they placed second overall with 129.5 points, falling short of Shawnee’s 131 team points as the Braves captured the title at Northeastern High School. Greenon’s girls placed a solid fifth with 67 points, while Northwestern finished ninth with 33.5.

Northwestern’s boys team tallied 74 points, placing them fourth overall in the boys championship, with Tecumseh placing eighth (46) and Greenon (19).

In the girls 100 dash, Greenon’s Rachel Stute finished third with a 13.32, with Tecumseh’s duo of Jasmine Hassell fourth and Kiya Dennis sixth, while Northwestern’s Hayliegh Williams placing eighth. The top eight finishers in each event earn team points.

Stute battled to a third place finish in the 200, running a 27.05, with Tecumseh’s Hailey Beel finishing fourth and Williams coming back for a seventh place finish.

Thanks to the trifecta of titles from Kenton Ridge junior Jamari McDavid, it was Stute battling for second place, as the Greenon senior ran a 59.74 in the 400. Allison Berner from Tecumseh finished seventh.

Brooke Hoffman finished second in the 800, as the Tecumseh junior ran a 2:32.50, while her teammaye Staci Harmon ran to a fourth place finish. Hoffman came back and finished third overall in the 1600 (5:32.43), with Northwestern’s Korynne Berner placed sixth, her teammate Brooke Smith seventh and Tecumseh’s Natalie Allen placing eighth.

Running the 3200 and placing fourth was Smith, with the Tecumseh duo of Morgan Crowley fifth and Emma Hoover sixth.

In the relays, Tecumseh won the 4x1 event with a time of 52.09, with Northwestern fifth and Greenon seventh. The Arrows 4x2 team came back with a third place finish and Greenon placed fifth.

The Arrows came back in the 4x4 with a second place finish and Greenon placed sixth. The Arrows’ solid relay performance continued in the 4x8 as they finished second, with Northwestern fourth and Greenon sixth.

Alina Blunk added to Tecumseh’s point total with a fourth place finish in the 100 hurdles (18.28), with Greenon’s Montanna Hayslip finishing fifth and Audrey Diller from Tecumseh sixth. In the 300 hurdles, Macy Ricks from Tecumseh placed second with a 51.96, and Diller was one spot behind her.

In the field events, Kyndall Berner was fourth in the high jump, as the Northwestern freshman leaped 4’8”. Placing fifth was Hassell and Ricks was eighth. Hassell also finished second in the long jump with a 15’7.75”. Her teammate Dennis was third with Kyndall Berner sixth and Greenon junior Sierra Davis seventh.

In the pole vault, Tecumseh freshman Faith Legg was fourth at 7’, and her Arrows freshman teammate Sydney Maxwell placed seventh.

Kari Norton from Greenon won the shot put with a toss of 32’5.5”, and another Knight Tori Critchley finished fifth. Greenon continued their dominance in the throwing events as Kaprina King won the discus with a toss of 105’8”, with Tecumseh’s Auora Miller was second, Norton was fourth and Bethanie Wilson (Northwestern) placed seventh.

*The boys also had several strong placers from the area athletes.

In the 100 meter dash, Greenon sophomore Derek Brown finished seventh overall with a time of 12.01, just edging Tecumseh’s Malik Quisenberry who finished eighth. Quisenberry came back and earned the Arrows points with an eighth place finish in the 200, running a 24.44.

Brown also placed seventh overall in the 400 with a time of 55.47. In the 800, Northwestern junior Ryan Cleland competed for a place, finishing fifth overall with a 2:10.30, while Tecumseh’s Trent Studebaker finished seventh.

Cleland also placed in the 1600 with a fifth place finish (4:54.45), while his Warriors teammate Kyle Jamison ran a 10:22.30 in the 3200, earning him the overall title. Tecumseh’s Luke Gilles placed eighth.

In the 4x1 relay, Tecumseh placed third with Northwestern was sixth and Greenon seventh. The Knights then came back in the 4x2 and placed fifth with Northwestern finished seventh.

Tecumseh’s 4x4 team earned a fourth place finish in that race with Greenon eighth, and in the 4x8, it was Northwestern taking the win with a 10 second spread over the second place team from Shawnee. Tecumseh placed sixth.

Tecumseh’s Ross Warren ran to a fourth place finish in the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.47, with Liam Burns from Northwestern placing seventh. In the 300 hurdles, Warren fell short of the title as he placed second. Liam Burns from Northwestern was sixth and Tecumseh’s David Coles placing eighth.

Moving out to the field events, Northwestern freshman Landon Burns captured the high jump championship with a jump of 6’2”. Burns also placed in the long jump as he finished sixth overall.

Finishing second in the pole vault was Tecumseh’s DJ Johnston with a 12’ vault, just six inches away from the champion Jardyan Mitchem from Shawnee. Tecumseh’s Simon Herbert placed fourth.

Winning the shot put was Northwestern freshman Adam Riedinger who threw 49’6.75”, while the Greenon duo of Joseph Vauthier and Ty Rickmon placed sixth and seventh. Riedinger also came back and placed second in the discus with a toss of 133’. His teammate Blake Jamison finished fourth and Rickmon placed sixth.

Next Tuesday, Tecumseh, Greenon and Northwestern will join the rest of the CBC schools for the league meet at the new Tecumseh track.
