GOV 3103Several local wrestlers advanced through the second day of the GMVWA Hoilday Wrestling Tournament, held at Wright State University over the holidays.

At 106, Jacob Edwards from Troy Christian lost in the consolation round to Ben Yost of Dublin Coffman to be eliminated, while Troy freshman Joe Pascale won his first consolation 13-1 Walker from Fairfield, then defeated Yost before being eliminated by Lucas.

Tecumseh’s Blake Biteman won his quarterfinal match of the 120 pound class championship bracket defeating Dylan Ork of Oak Hills 16-6, but was knocked into the consos by Gage Branson of Glen Este 9-1. From there, Biteman finished fifth overall. Also in the weight class, Troy Christian Michael Sergent advanced to the finals, where he lost to Branson.

Troy Christian came back at 126m as top seed Garrett Hancock advanced to the finals, and he lost to Eli Seipel from Graham to finish second overall.

Coming in at 138 was Cody Ohnmeiss, a senior at Troy Christian, as he won his quarterfinal match 11-5 over Greg Brusco fo Delaware Hayes, advancing to the semis where he lost to Ryan Ford of Covington 6-4 sending the Eagles wrestler to the consolations. Ohnmeiss defeated Andrew Acuna from  Lakota West 8-1, but fell short in the third-place finals, falling to Dominick Demas of Dublin Coffman to place fourth overall.

Coming in at 145, Steven Marker battled in the consos, winning four matches before losing to Dylan Roth of Oak Hills in 5:24.

In the 152 class, Gabe Callicoat from Tippecanoe had advanced to the quarters on the opening day, but lost to Jon Belk of Ryle in 1:11 and dropped into the consos. There, he defeated Plaughter of Wapakoneta 10-8, then pinned Avery Jones of Glen Este in 2:55 before losing to Tyler Sowards of Kenton Ridge in 4-3 in sudden death. Callicoat then finished fifth overall with a final match 6-5 win over Lance Miller of Covington.

At 160 pounds, Tecumseh’s Michael Herbert advanced to the quarters, where he fell to Alex Marinelli of Graham in 1:03, while Tipp’s Cole Smith also lost in that round, losing 8-2 to Jeremiah Slagle of Sidney. Both wrestlers lost their first match in the consolation round.

Coming in at 170, Austin Robbins of Tippecanoe lost in the quarterfinals, falling 10-5 to Hillard Bradley’s Keegan Driscoll, who went on to win the title. Robbins dropped into the consolations, and picked up three wins before losing in the third place match to Garrett Jordan of Graham 18-8.

Weighing in at 195 was Christian Devlin of Troy Christian, and he lost his quarterfinal match to Ben Miller of Covington in 4:43. Devlin won his opening match in the consolations before losing 7-0 to Chris Martinez of Delaware Hayes.

Greenon’s lone wrestler to advance to the quarterfinals on day one was Aaron Leciejewski at 220, and he fell short in his quarter match, falling 7-2 to Michael Crockett. He then lost his first match in consos.

Finally at 285, both Tecumseh’s Tristan Taylor and Tipp’s Logan Ferrell advanced into the semis. Taylor defeated Shane Hammock of Eaton 4-2, while Ferrell won 10-7 over Nick Hogenbirk of Hillard Bradley, but the Tipp senior lost in the semis, and dropped into the consos where he placed fifth. Meanwhile, Taylor won his semi matchup to reach the finals, but was pinned in 1:01 by Ryan Cloud of Northmont to place second overall.
