Sports Notes: Tecumseh Boys Remain Atop CBC

In a crossover CBC basketball game last week, the Tecumseh Arrows used a big first half to defeat Greenon 76-57.

The Arrows jumped out to a 15-9 lead, and then Greenon watched as Tecumseh exploded for 29 points in the second period, increasing their lead to 44-24 at the half.

The game was much closer in the second half, with the Knights outscoring the Arrows 33-32 in the final 16 minutes.

Tecumseh was led by freshman Darius Quisenberry with 24 points, 11 steals and six assists, while Donte Clark added 19 points and 12 rebounds, Malik Quisenberry also scored 14 points for the Arrows in the win.

For the Knights, they had two players in double figures, as the usually steady Jacob Whetsel led the way with 20 points and nine rebounds, while Alden Stockden added 14 points and 10 boards. Ross Warren also chipped in eight points for Greenon.

*On Friday night, the Arrows moved to 4-0 in the CBC and remained in the division lead after an easy 85-49 rout of Stebbins on the road.

Darius Quisenberry again had a big night, scoring 22 points with six rebounds and eight assists to lead the Arrows. He was one of four players in double figures, as Donte Clark added 16 points with 11 rebounds and four blocks. Also for Tecumseh, Malik Quisenberry and Caleb Linder each scored 11 in the win.

Tecumseh remains one game in front of Bellefontaine and Shawnee in the Kenton Trail Division, who are 3-1 on the year. The 7-3 Arrows played at Sidney last night in a non-conference game, then returns to league play Friday hosting Bellefontaine in a key matchup.

Tecumseh Bowling- The Arrows battled Bellefontaine and Stebbins last week. In the girls match against Bellefontaine, the Arrows won 2276-2157, led by Katie Portner with a 149-218, followed by Amy Burgher 130-215 Katie Stamper 146-126, and single games from Adrienne Lutz 178 and Maddie Dusko 137. Their baker scores were 177, 157, 170, 146.

The boys cruised to an easy 2722-2255 win over Bellefontaine, as Dylan Terrell rolled a 203-254 and Matthew Brown finished with 245-203. Also for Tecumseh, Zach Helm 194-198, while single games from Noah Burns 197, Austin Ward 157, Caleb Collins 200 and Jay Woosley 148. Their bakers were 142, 194, 193, and 194.

Against Stebbins, the girls won 2296-2072, as Portner led with s 204-213, Stamper 204-150, Burgher 167-172, Lutz 120 and Dusko 105. Baker scores 156, 170, 194 and 135.

For the boys, they also won 2666-2469, as Terrell had a 216-213, Helm 202-194 and Burns 214-205, while single scores came from Ward 169 and Woosley 171.  Bakers were 183, 173, 162 and 169.

Northwestern Sports Recap

Andy Elliott scored 31 points to lead Northwestern to a 73-62 win over Indian Lake in a CBC boys’ basketball game last week. Elliott added 10 rebounds in the win, while Elis Ullery added 11 points in the win.

That was the first win of the season for the Warriors in CBC play, as they return to action hosting Ben Logan on Friday night.

On the girls’ side, Northwestern defeated Northeastern 53-50 in a non league game. Three players scored double figures for the Warriors, led by Abby Zerkle with 18 points, followed by Katelyn Partlow with 13 and Korynne Berner scoring 10.

Tecumseh Wins County, Third At Valley View

The Tecumseh wrestling team continues to wrestle well, as they finished first overall at the Clark County meet, along with third at the Valley View Invitational held on Saturday.

At Valley View, Blake Biteman finished first at 120 pounds, while the Arrows had three runner-up wrestlers, as Dylan Johnston (126), Michael Herbert (160) and Gage Whitt (138) all placed second.

Finishing third was Tristan Taylor at 285, while fourth place finishers were Hunter Donnan at 112, Allen Eben (132) and Caleb Young (170).

In the county meet, Biteman and Taylor both finished as champions in their weight class. The Arrows also had five runner-up finishers. They were Eben, Donnan, along with Steven Marker at 145, Will Rose at 152 and Conner Maxwell at 106.

“The guys are wrestling well right now as a team,” said Tecumseh coach Scott Herbert. “We didn’t have a lot of individual champions in both tournaments, but the younger guys are coming around several of the guys finished in the top four.”

“We placed 12 of the 13 weight classes in the top four at county, and all 13 guys were top six at Valley View.”

Tecumseh is off this weekend, but returns to action next week.

On Saturday, Northwestern lost a CBC game to division leading Ben Logan 64-52.
