Behind Christian White’s first victory of the season, the Bethel baseball team scored three times in the fifth inning to extend their slim lead to five runs, then withstood a seventh inning comeback to defeat Emmanuel Christian 5-3 in a non-league game in Brant.

Bethel scored first by plating two runs in the opening inning to set the tone. White was doing his job on the mound, shutting down the Lions to no runs for the first six innings. A three spot in the fifth gave Bethel a 5-0 lead.

Emmanuel Christian fought back but fell short in their final at bat.

While White was doing the job on the mound, Kenton Egbert came in and got the save for the Bees.

Tyler Brookhart was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, while Hunter Shelley added two RBIs for the Bees.

*On Wednesday, the Bees challenged league foe Twin Valley South in West Alexandria, and Bethel watched as the Panthers scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth, en route to a 4-3 victory over the Bees.

Brookhart came back with three more hits, while Shelley added a double.

*Shelley recorded half of the hits that Bethel had last Thursday, as they lost to Arcanum 8-1 in another conference game.

He recorded two hits, as they watched Arcanum score five times in the opening inning to take a quick 5-0 lead. They made it 8-0 before the Bees scored their lone run in the fifth.

*On Saturday, the Bees defeated Northridge swept two games from Northridge 13-5 and 12-5. In game one, the Bees scored seven runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead early. Shelley was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs, Shaffer added three hits and two RBIs, Nicholas Lightcap had two hits and two runs batted in. Samuel McKenny earned the win for the Bees.

In game two, Shelley pitched the Bees to the win and added a homerun and four RBIs at the plate. Zach Cohee contributed three hits with a double, and Brookhart had two hits.

Bethel Softball- It was a good old-fashioned slugfest for the Bees softball team last week as they defeated Twin Valley South 16-15 in a Cross County Conference game on the road.

Bethel had plenty of offense, as Grace Anthony was 4-for-5 with three singles and a homerun, driving in two runs. Becky Schweiterman was also 4-for-5 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.

Kaitlyn Parker added three hits for the Bees with two doubles, Morgan Reittinger was 4-for-5 with four singles. Also driving in two runs was Brie Ellish.

“We got way out in front of them early, we got up like 14-1,” Bethel coach Jeremy Reittinger said. “We missed getting the run rule in, and the third time through the batting order they caught up with our pitcher.”

Twin Valley South fought back with seven runs in the fifth and five in the seventh.
