Specializing in lunch and sweet treats, Cupcake Cuties will offer a different lunch menu every day, consisting of two soup choices, a sandwich, and a couple of different side dishes. Also available each day will be a selection of nine different dessert options including muffins, cheesecakes, and of course, cupcakes.

Bonnie Gantt opened Cupcake Cuties as a sort of late wedding present from her husband Jerry. She married Jerry in April and then moved to New Carlisle from Springfield. Bonnie said that Jerry asked her to name something she’d always wanted to do in life but hadn’t accomplished, and gave her the money to open Cupcake Cuties after she told him that it had always been her dream “to open my own little shop,” she said.

She noted that after opening in August, she often had to shut down due to her husband’s numerous trips to the Emergency Room for an undiagnosed illness. She said that during their last trip to the hospital, she firmly told doctors that they weren’t leaving without a diagnosis, saying that the uncertainty was incredibly frustrating. During this trip, they received the devastating results that Jerry was found to have lung cancer.

Gantt said the family is remaining positive despite the diagnosis, and that they’re looking toward the future and healing. She said that the café should be back to its normal hours now, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday through Friday; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Cupcake Cuties offers an unbeatable daily lunch special, which includes a sandwich, soup, drink, and cupcake for just $6. Members of the New Carlisle Library who show their card will receive the meal deal for just $5, as well as getting an extra cupcake. She noted that locals had already caught on to Fridays being “quesadilla day,” which seems to be popular lunch fare so far.

“We’ve got great prices, great food, and a great atmosphere,” Gantt said.

Gantt and her mother Vicky Jones are in charge of the shop’s daily operations, with Jones cooking all the lunch items fresh from scratch while Gantt handles the baking.

She said she had been told repeatedly by many people that New Carlisle did not have enough places open for lunch, and hopes that Cupcake Cuties will become a favorite local eatery.

“We really need the support of New Carlisle to stay open and be successful,” said Gantt.

Cupcake Cuties is located at the corner of Jefferson and Church Streets, with plenty of on-street parking, Gantt said.
