It was their home opener for the Ohio Crush on Saturday, as the New Carlisle-based semi-pro football team hosted the Columbus War Eagles and continued their strong start to the season.

The Crush jumped on their opponents with a big first half, and cruised to an easy 50-0 victory in front of a solid home crowd at Raynor Park in Park Layne.

Jon Mason had a huge game for the Crush, scoring six touchdowns including five in the air to lead the Crush attack.

Mason started the scoring with an 18 yard scoring pass to Vance Taylor with 1:45 left in the opening period to give the Crush a 7-0 lead.

Still in the first quarter, Dustin Miller recorded a safety for the Crush to push their lead to 9-0 after one quarter of play.

In the big second quarter, the Crush scored on a 38 yard pass from Mason to Taylor to take their lead to 15-0, and when Mason threw another scoring pass to Ryan Tucker from four yards out, the Crush led 21-0.

To end the half, the Crush scored again when Daulton Rothwell returned a fumble for a touchdown, giving the local team a 29-0 lead at the break.

In the third period, Mason hit Tyler Waller on a 30 yard touchdown pass to make it 36-0, and he capped his air assault with a 15 yard pass to Taylor giving the Crush a 43-0 lead.

Mason capped the scoring on a one-yard run in the fourth period.

Mason ended the day 13-22 for 250 yards and five passing touchdowns. Leading rushers were Justin Huff with 53 yards and Mike Brown added 35.

Taylor caught five passes for 96 yards and three scores.

The Crush is now 5-0 on the season, and return to action on June 4 at home against the Zanesville Jets, kickoff at 4 p.m. at Raynor Park.
