Mother Nature may have postponed the first official track meet on the new track at Tecumseh High School, but she couldn’t stop the Tecumseh Arrows from a clean sweep last week in their first official event.

After being moved from an earlier date due to severe weather, the Arrows finally opened their new track last Thursday night, hosting Northwestern, Bethel and Shawnee, and it was a successful night for the host squad. The top five placers in each event earned points for their teams.

The Arrows boys won the meet with 99 points, 20 better than the runner-up from Shawnee. In the girls race, Tecumseh accumulated 140.5 points, good enough for an easy 80 point win.

*In the boys 100, Malik Quisenberry from Tecumseh earned the win in 11.56 seconds, followed by teammate Jonathon Tomaro (second), and Bryant Walters who placed fourth. Bethel’s Daniel Trimbach won the 200 with a 24.992. He defeated Ayden Schreiber from Tecumseh, who finished at 24.995. The Arrows’ Justin Berry placed third and Ryan Rowland was fifth.

Tecumseh’s Kenyon Watson placed first in the 400 dash (55.68), as easy win over Northwestern’s Stephen White. Bethel took third (Peyton Chapman) and fourth (Peyton Inman) while fifth was Alex Miller from Northwestern. Winning the 800 was Tecumseh’s Grant Heckman with a time of 2:17.72, with his teammate Brandon Castillo was third, Luke Coleman of Northwestern fourth and Bethel’s Conner Whelan fifth.

Placing second in the 1600 was Northwestern’s Keith Kaiser as he finished with a 5:15.50, while Bethel’s Whelan third, Luke Gilles of Tecumseh fourth, and rounding out the top five was Northwestern’s Justin Adamson. Levi King from Northwestern was the only local runner to earn points in the 3200, as the Northwestern sophomore was third.

Ross Warren won both the 110 and 300 hurdles events, while in the relays, Tecumseh won the 4x1 and 4x8, was second in the 4x2, and third in the 4x4. Northwestern placed second in the 4x8 and 4x4, and fourth in the 4x2 and 4x1.

In the field events, freshman Landon Burns won the high jump with 5’8”, with Quisenberry third from Tecumseh, Eli Berner from Northwestern fourth and Tecumseh’s Zach Nabil fifth. Bethel’s Trimbach won the long jump (19’1”), with Nabil second and Berner fifth. Also placing in the pole vault was DJ Johnston from Tecumseh who was second, teammate Simon Herbert third and Northwestern’s Liam Burns fifth.

Placing third in the shot put was Tecumseh’s Kyle Holt with 34’8.75”, with the Arrows’ Isaiah Trimble fourth and Bethel’s Adam Kaup fifth. Finally in the discus, Holt was first (113’5”) and teammate Bryant Walters fourth. Northwestern also had two placers, as Anakin Mitterholzer was second and Jake Suman finished fifth.

*In the girls’ sprints, the Arrows placed three in the 100. Hailey Beel won with a 13.39, teammate Paige Benton second and Danielle Franklin fifth. Bethel’s Brooklyn Smith placed fourth. Benton earned the win in the 200 (28.46), with Tecumseh teammate Allison Berner second and Bethel’s Sophia Yarwick fifth.

The Tecumseh dominance continued in the 400, as Berner won with a 1:07.03, as the Arrows took the top four spots. Morgan Crowley was second, Breanna Crowley third and Jade North fourth. Northwestern freshman Madison Henry was fifth. In the 800, Abbie Grieser from Northwestern was fourth (2:56.74) and Bethel’s Madison McCabe was fifth.

In the 1600, Natalie Allen from Tecumseh won with a 6:13.63, while the Arrows’ Staci Harmon placed third. Emma Hoover easily won the 3200 as the Tecumseh senior finished in 13:44.40. Rachel Sebastian from Bethel was third and Emily Grimm from Northwestern fourth.

Tecumseh earned 13 points in the 100 hurdles, as Allison Blunk was first at 17.54, Audrey Diller placed second, Macy Ricks fourth and Miranda Volz fifth. Diller was first in the 300 hurdles (49.23), with Ricks second and Blunk third.

In the 4x1relay, Tecumseh won with a 52.56, with Northwestern third. The 4x2 saw Tecumseh finish second and Bethel third. The Arrows came back with a win in the 4x4 and the 4x8. The Bees were third in the last race.

Bethel senior Bailey McCabe came back in the high jump with a first-place leap of 4’8”, with Danielle Franklin from Tecumseh second, Ricks finished third and Arrows freshman Madison Leiser fourth. The high jump also was won by a Tecumseh freshman, as Kiya Dennis jumped 15’3.5”, while McCabe finished second, Kayla Grable from Bethel took third, Natalie Cooper (Tecumseh) fourth and Rachel Norris (Bethel) fifth.

The top four spots in the pole vault were also local athletes, as Tecumseh freshman Faith Legg jumped 7’6” for first overall, with Tecumseh’s Sydney Maxwell second and Katryna North tied for third with Northwestern’s Emily Funderburg.

Winning the shot put was Northwestern senior Ashley Highfield with a toss of 28’1.5”, with teammate Olivia Lawrence second and Megan Jackson fourth. Finishing third from Tecumseh was Macey Berner. In the discus, Auora Miller from Tecumseh won the title with a throw of 99’7”, while Lawrence was second, Berner third, Highfield fourth and Jackson fifth.
