Brooke Hoffman enjoys solid track season heading into her senior year- Seth Gecko PHOTO

Every athlete dreams on making a difference in their favorite sport, but for Tecumseh senior Brooke Hoffman, things got real exciting as she concluded her track season a couple of weeks ago.

Hoffman, also a standout for the Tecumseh soccer team, blossomed at the right time, winning the OHSAA Division One district championship in the 1600 meter run and making a name for herself among the top returning runners in the area.

So what’s ahead for the senior? A lot of off-season work because she is not satisfied yet.

“In the off-season, I will try and run as much as I can,” Hoffman said. “When I train, I use a high altitude mask often to help build up my lung capacity. One of the biggest things I am attempting to work on with myself to help me become a better athlete for high school is to believe in myself.”

She knows that other people may think that she is talented enough to have a great senior season, but she has to believe it herself.

“Everyone else can believe in any player as much as they want, but a player can only go so far on those people’s confidence,” she said. “After running at Districts this year, I realized I needed to believe in myself. I was blessed with the ability to run, and I need to recognize this and do the best I can do.”

Hoffman will not only look to improve on her running, but this fall she looks to close out her soccer career with a stellar senior season. She scored five points last year for the Arrows, and expects her numbers to improve.

“It’s a tough decision when asked which sport is my favorite, but I would have to go with track,” Hoffman said. “I love the atmosphere of track. It’s energetic and crazy. There is no telling what will happen at any track meet or practice.”

“The influences in my life that guided me to playing sports would have to be my friends and family. If it weren’t for my friends wanting me to run track my seventh grade year and my parents pushing me to try it, I probably wouldn’t be a distance runner for the track team.”

So for Hoffman, she has set her goals to advance to within the top three in every event she participates in, and wants to set the 1600 and 800 school records before she graduates.

Hoffman also plans to continue to run after high school, and possibly participate in some intermural soccer or run cross country. She also wants to major in physical therapy.
