It was a matchup that brought together two evenly matched teams last week as Tecumseh hosted Northwestern in a crossover CBC contest. The Warriors captured the first game to take the early lead, only to watch Tecumseh battle back and win the next three games, en route to a 22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 win.

“It was another really good opponent, and this entire week we have been on an upward trend,” said Tecumseh coach Nathan Matthews. “It is the best we have played all season. We are showing constant improvement, and this was a big week for this success as we have four matches this week, so I couldn’t be more confident heading into our next games.”

Game one saw five ties in the first 11 points, as the game was even at 11-11 before Northwestern put together a four point run to jump in front 15-11. Rachel Martin served the Warriors to the lead, and they pushed the lead out to 20-14 before the Arrows came fighting back.

Five consecutive points from Kenzie Nabil tied the game at 20, but Northwestern four of the next five points before closing out the first game.

Tecumseh took the early lead in game two as Lucy Eier gave the Arrows a 6-2 lead with four consecutive points. It was a lead they would not lose despite Northwesten closing the gap to 8-7. The Arrows then had a 9-3 run to give them a 17-10 lead.

Solid net play from Zoey Dysinger and Kirsten Nartker propelled the Arrows to even the match at one game apiece.

Three quick points from Mackenzie Drews gave the Arrows a quick lead in game three, but the Warriors fought back. There were four ties before the Arrows went on a long run behind seven consecutive points from Drews. Tecumseh stretched their lead out to 20-12.

After the Arrows closed out that set to take a 2-1 lead, they jumped in front again in game four, building a 5-1 lead early. Northwestern did not go away, cutting the lead to 10-8. Tecumseh maintained their lead throughout the fourth game en route to the win.

Northwestern was led by Haylee Lough with 13 kills, while Alainey Kleis and Drews each added six.

“We just didn’t execute to our ability tonight to get the win,” said Northwestern coach Rebecca Macy. “We had too many errors which almost equaled our kills.”

*Tecumseh also defeated Piqua last week 21-25, 25-18, 25-23, 25-12. Eier led the Arrows with 20 digs, Dysinger and Eier each had three aces, Dysinger also added 18 kills and Drews dished out 34 assists.

“I have been preaching constant improvement the last couple of weeks and (tonight) we were able to see the results,” Matthews said.
