Cole Bentley is part of an Arrows boys’ track team hoping to make some noise in the CBC.

Not only is Tecumseh track coach Mark Holbrook ready for the track season to begin, he has his eye on this Saturday, as the Arrows get to host their first invitational meet in several years.

After the Arrows enjoyed their first season on their new track, they come back this year with high expectations as the Arrows look to challenge for a CBC title.

“On the girls’ side, we have a lot of kids back and have a strong senior class,” Holbrook said. “If we can get some key contributions from younger kids, we can compete for CBC title.”

“We are well rounded across the board and can fill most of the spots, but we need to improve distance. We have one girl back from regionals, but we lost three key girls. I think we have some good freshman coming on, but they need to step up. It will be exciting to see how they do.”

While the girls have solid numbers back, the boys’ team is looking for the kids to come together for a good season.

“We are very low on numbers and are young,” Holbrook said. “We have some individuals who are very good but we need to see how the younger kids fill in.”

“Bellefontaine is the front runner in the CBC for guys. It will be tough for anyone to beat them on our side. On the individual events we will compete for titles but overall as a team, Bellefontaine has the best team.”

“For the girls’ Shawnee by far has the best distance teams, and Jamari (McDavid) from Kenton Ridge is back in sprints,” Holbrook said. “I think it is between us, Shawnee and Bellefontaine for the girls’ league title. It all depends who steps up in certain events.”

The boys are led by seniors Kenyon Watson and Jonathan Tomaro both sprinters, handling the 100 and 200. Tomaro made final eight at districts last year, and Watson was injured and is ready to go for his senior year.

Ross Warren is also back for his senior year in hurdles and sprints. As a sophomore, Warren made regionals in 300 hurdles, and last year was second in the CBC.

DJ Johnson also is a senior pole vaulter and Holbrook feels he can make some noise this year.

“He has taken the lead there as a senior, and his goal is to make it out of districts,” Holbrook said. “He will be a CBC contender.”

Also for the boys’ team, Shane Gray and Ayden Schreiber are sprinters looking to contribute, while Garrett Gemmaka and Trent Studebaker will be the main distance runners.

The Tecumseh girls’ also have some quality athletes returning, including seniors Brooke Hoffman, the leader for the Arrows.

“She is the heart and soul of the girls’ team,” Holbrook said. “She runs the mile and signed with Bowling Green to run. Brooke carries our distance runners, is a great senior leader and younger kids are stepping up following her. She is driven to win.”

Aurora Miller is a senior back to throw the discus, and was fifth at districts last year.

“She is 10-feet from the school record, and Tecumseh has never been known for discus but she has taken it on her own to get the record.”

Hannah Marquette is another senior who returns after missing her junior year. She will handle the 400 and 200. As a sophomore, she had a great year, but tore her ACL last year and has worked hard to come back.

Hailey Beel also runs most of the sprint events for the Arrows, but according to Holbrook, they will monitor her season not to overuse her.

Junior Jasmine Hassell is another sprinter in the 100 and was fourth in CBC.

“She is close to the 100 meter school record,” Holbrook said. “She was the individual point leader as a freshman and sophomore and is also involved in the long and high jump.

Audrey Diller is another school record holder in the 300 hurdles, and it working to break her own record.

Two key freshman are expected to be key contributors, as Jaci Rife and Gena Diller are expected to be key runners.

“Jaci will be special for Tecumseh down the road,” Holbrook said. “She will do some sprinting, and the 400. As a freshman as in our prelims, she was one second off the school record in 400. Gena is a distance runner who will follow in Brookes footsteps. She will have to take a lead role and will be our two-miler.”
