In a weather related make-up game last Wednesday, the Tecumseh Arrows Softball team defeated the Benjamin Logan Raiders 9-6 at Tecumseh High School.

Putting together an impressive all-around performance with timely hitting, solid pitching and exceptional defense in the field, Tecumseh showed great teamwork and talent on their way to the victory.

The Arrows jumped out of the gate taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Ashley Fite rocked an RBI double to the fence in deep left center field. Benjamin Logan tied the game up at one in the next inning, but later the Arrows turned up the offense and took an 8-1 lead into the fifth inning.

Fite, as well as knocking in five total RBI while going four for four at the plate in the contest, pitched a complete game.

Tecumseh got out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after their first two batters reached base with a walk and an excellent bunt for a hit by Zoe Dean. Pitcher Ashley Fite then doubled to score Danielle Pride from second base.

Benjamin Logan tied up the score in the top of the second inning but then Fite and the Arrows’ defense settled in and didn’t allow the Raiders to score again until the fifth inning.

The Arrows put forth an offensive burst in the bottom of the third inning as again it was Fite with a triple that scored Pride and Logan Markstrom. Mckenzie Drews then brought Fite home with a single, followed by another RBI by Cheyann Neal, giving Tecumseh a 5-1 lead after three innings.

In the fifth inning the Arrows added to their lead when Fite hit her second triple of the game scoring Dean and Markstroml.

With the score 8-1 in the fifth, the Raiders scored two runs but were stopped there as Fite was backed up by shortstop Markstrom with some nifty glove work in the field.

In the bottom of the sixth inning Fite batted in her fifth RBI with her fourth hit of the game, making the score 9-3.

Fite went four for four with two triples, a double and a single. On her way to pitching a complete game, Fite got into a bit of trouble in the top of the seventh inning when Benjamin Logan added three runs, but she then finally closed the door and Tecumseh finished the Raiders off, winning 9-6.

Head coach of the Arrows, Christi Leggett was pleased with her team’s performance but let them know after the game they will have to clean up the small mistakes to improve. Tecumseh has thus far put together a solid season and will look to build on this important victory moving forward.
