As the new wrestling season closes in, Tecumseh coach Scott Herbert has a lot of be excited about.

Not only do they return five district qualifiers from last year’s team, the Arrows have a legitimate chance to compete for a divisional title and make a good run in the post season tournament.

“We have most of our kids back from last year with no seniors last year,” Herbert said. “We are still young with only three seniors this year, several juniors and sophomores and some freshman. We should be solid in some of weight classes. From 113-170 we have some experience on varsity back with at least one year or more of experience.”

“These guys had some success last year and several of the kids put in work in the off season,” Herbert added. “Quite a few kids had summer tournaments.”

With the success they enjoyed last season, Herbert expects the guys to be hungry for more this year, and it starts in the Central Buckeye Confernece.

“It is one of our goals is to win the CBC and we have a good shot at it on our side,” he said. “Besides winning league we want to finish second behind Graham. For the district qualifiers, we want to get some of the kids to the state tournament.”

Tecumseh will be led by the guys who enjoyed the most success last season, and it starts with the returning district qualifiers.

Hunter Donnan returns at the 126/132 weight class, and battled an injury last season. According to Herbert, he is one of the wrestlers expected to be a major contributor this season.

Also back is Tommy Rowe at 160.170, and was another district qualifier last year as a sophomore.

“He is one of our leaders for the team and a go-getter and works hard,” Herbert said. “He has enjoyed quite a bit of success last year and we look forward for him to do well again this year.”

A trio of sophomores will return after solid freshmen seasons. Cyle Wells (132/138), Lucas Rodgers (138/145) and Alec Hall (152/160).

“All were district qualifiers as freshman last year,” Herbert said. “They picked up some good experience and won big matches. They worked hard in the off season and we are looking forward to improvement on last year.”

Other returning junior letterwinners include Gavyn Sineff (113/120), a two-year letterman and was close to district qualification last season. Also back includes Brian Stone (120/126), Simon Herbert (126/132),

Brent Moody (145/152), Greg Asher (Hwt), and Samo Olejnicek (160/170).
