Coming off a season-opening loss at the Journey to the Tourney, the Tecumseh girls’ basketball team was ready to get into the winning column last week, hosting Vandalia Butler in their home opener. The Arrows exploded out to a fast first quarter lead and never looked back cruising to a 78-49 victory to even their record at 1-1.

Presley Griffitts led the Arrows with 25 points, while Corinne Thomas added 23 and Makenxie Pauley scored 12 on a variety of three-point shots.

After Butler took their only lead of the game by scoring the opening basket, the Arrows went to work. Pauley buried a three and Griffitts scored two quick baskets to give the Arrows a 7-2 lead. While Tecumseh was maintaining their lead, the Aviators began to close the gap. They cut the lead to 13-7 on a 10-footer from Megan Allen before the Arrows closed out the first quarter on a run.

Thomas and Pauley hit consecutive three’s and Macy Berner ended the quarter with a layup at the buzzer to send the Arrows into the second period with a 21-8 lead.

The Arrows went on a 9-0 run over a span of 1:30 in the second period, including five points from Thomas, as Tecumseh pushed their lead out to 32-11. Griffitts took over in the final three minutes of the half, scoring seven points to give her 17 for the half, and the Arrows led 42-22.

Butler had a productive third period, as they played evenly with the Arrows before the Arrows put together an 8-0 run in the middle of the fourth, extending their lead to 66-39 as Thomas buried a pair of threes.

*Tecumseh also fell short in their game on Saturday afternoon at the Hoops for Harvest tournament in Kentucky, losing to Conner High School 69-67. Thomas led the Arrows with 22 points, Griffitts added 21, and Berner 12.

The Arrows play at Indian Lake tonight, and host Jonathan Alder on Saturday night.

Tecumseh Boys Basketball- The Tecumseh boys’ basketball team fell behind by seven at halftime in their season opener to Miamisburg on Friday night, and could only muster two points in the final period of play as they fell to the Vikings 47-27 at Reynolds Gym.

Leading the way for the Arrows in the loss was Easton Lewis who scored ten points, and was the only player in double figures.

Also scoring for the Arrows was Clay Mastin and Randy Collins Jr. each with five, David Berner scored four and Donovan Collins added three.

Tecumseh trailed 21-14 at the half, and gave up 18 points in the third to fall behind 30-25 heading to the fourth. The Arrows only netted two points in the final period.

The Arrows (0-1) played Springfield last night, are back in action Friday night at Ben Logan in a CBC matchup starting at 7:30, then head to Franklin on Saturday night to battle the Wildcats also at 7:30.
