I will let your car in when you are waiting and stuck in traffic – because it’s the right thing. I will let you in front of me in the check out line if you only have a couple of items – because it’s the right thing. I will smile at you and thank you for your good service – because it’s the right thing.
I won’t cut in line or get angry (I hope) if you do – because it’s the right thing. I will turn my cell phone off in movies, church, work place, restaurants and concerts – because it’s the right thing. I will encourage your child to finish the race or sell more Girl Scout Cookies or hit a home run – because it’s the right thing. I will pet your dog and coo at your baby (after all they are your world) – because it’s the right thing. I won’t lie or spread rumors – because it’s the right thing. I will stand when our American flag goes by, say the Pledge of Allegiance with reverence, and sing our National Anthem with gusto – because it’s the right thing. I will grab my neighbor’s mail and paper when they are out of town, help shovel their drive or gather their blowing trash cans – even if they don’t ask – because it’s the right thing. I will take care of those less fortunate or less healthy or weaker than I – because it’s the right thing. I will soften my heart and forgive – because it’s the right thing. I will laugh out loud, sing, dance and have fun and enjoy my life to the fullest each and every day – because it’s the right thing.
Doing the right thing is not necessarily the easy thing, but I will continue to always do my best – for God, for my family, for my friends and neighbors, for my fellow man, and for myself – because, after all….it is the right thing.
