The English Accents Club of New Carlisle celebrates its forty-seventh year of existence in February 2012.
The club was started in February 1965 for women born in England, by June Crawford of New Carlisle and Audrey Hegwood Mueller of Park Layne. Over the years several members have either died, moved to other locations, dropped out, or gone back to England. But a dozen members still meet twice a month to enjoy each others company and talk about the times when they were raising their children, welcoming grandchildren, and for some, having great-grandchildren. They also enjoy English refreshments from recipes brought over from the old country, including tea and biscuits (cookies), trifle, mince pies, roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, Christmas pudding, and other English delicacies. They have become one big happy family of sisters and are there for each other whenever the need arises.
