Not surprisingly, the price of a First Class stamp is going up.
Just a penny increase, to 45 cents (the first since 2009), also the price of Postcard Stamps will be 32 cents. There will also be increases in Priority, Overnight, and other services. You can get all the details at www.usps.com. With the decline in personal mailing expenses, via Facebook, e-mail, ez bill pay, paypal, and the internet mailing services the postal service has seen a rise in shipping of on-line ordered products. The Post Office has kept revamping their services and prices to maintain the viability of continuing operations. They receive no tax dollars for operating expenses and rely solely on the sale of postage, and products & services to fund its operations. The majority of employees at our New Carlisle Post Office are our local citizens. The largest problem with maintaining the post office is its continued investment into its specialized retirement program at a cost of approx. 5.5 billion a year. As the second largest employer in the United States, hopefully something can be changed to head off its decline.
