Luckily, Jim Frantz was driving down Walnut Grove Jan. 6th, on Friday afternoon around 2 o’clock.Â
Being a trained firefighter for Springfield, his eyes spotted the smoke and what was quickly becoming a full blown structure fire. Fire Chief Tracy Young said, “The fire was evolving fast on the front side of the structure as smoke plumed across the road. Based on eye witness accounts and our own investigation, we believe Firefighter Frantz pulled over and took swift action to curtail the fire by grabbing a garden hose knocking down the main body of the fire. He then grabbed a garden hoe and began to pull the vinyl siding from the structure opening up any voids containing the spreading fire. Shortly afterwards NCFD crews arrived on the scene and took over and achieved full extinguishment. The family was not home at the time and the cause of the fire was determined to be electrical short in a wall outlet which spread to the outside of the residence. There is no doubt the actions taken by Firefighter Frantz prevented the spread of the fire saving the structure and its contents.” This scene, also, became the scene for two other accidents. A motorcyclist trying to avoid the blocked road circled around and crashed into the ditch. As paramedics were treating her, two more vehicles collided. The motorcyclist was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for trauma injuries and the other two vehicles had no injuries associated to this accident. Comments (0) |
