At the October 25, 2016 meeting of the Bethel Miami Township Trustees, the trustees approved two resolutions for the Phoneton Water Project being developed by the Miami County Sanitary Engineering Department. First, the trustees approved a resolution for committing Bethel Township to pay $1,000,000 toward the construction of the project.

Second, the trustees passed a resolution agreeing to cover the costs of the Phoneton Water Line not covered by grants/loans to be paid back through the assessment process. The total expected costs of the project are $1,900,000. The township has committed to pay $1,000,000 toward the cost with the remainder to be covered by a $400,000 Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) grant, $200,000 by OPWC loan, and $300,000 Ohio Water Development Authority (OWDA) grant, for which the township will apply.

In addition, the trustees authorized the payment of $7,500 to J & A Construction, Inc. for emergency repairs to Flick and Haskett Roads.

For the Fire Department, Fire Chief Andy Ehrhart reported that the Fire Department responded to 19 calls between October 8, 2016 and October 21, 2016. They responded to 13 emergency medical service calls, one of which was a motor vehicle accident without injuries. In addition, the department responded to five vehicle accidents with injuries.

In Planning and Zoning, Director Marty Caskey announced that three zoning applications were received and three issued. The applications included an in-ground pool at 7727 E US 49, an addition to a residence at 5190 Westland, and an accessory building at 7325 SR 201.

In addition, he is working on two zoning amendment applications. The first request is to split and rezone 4.03 acres from a 10.024 acre parcel from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 Domestic Agriculture at 5700 SR 571. The second request joins the 4.03 acres to a 10.1 adjacent lot and to rezone the 10.1-acre lot from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 Domestic Agriculture. The Bethel Zoning Commission will meet on December 22, 2016 to hear the cases.

In addition, Caskey announced that the Bethel Board of Zoning Appeals will meet on October 27, 2016 to hear two variance requests and one conditional use application.

In Zoning Enforcement, Caskey reported that no activity has been necessary.

The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for November 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the township meeting room The normally schedule meeting on November 8, 2016 was cancelled because it is Election Day.
