Bethel swimmer Eiliana Wright competed in the district swim meet at Miami University last weekend

Tippecanoe, Bethel and Greenon will be sending swimmers onto the state championships this weekend at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, after qualifying at the districts this past weekend. Tecumseh also saw three of their swimmers compete at the districts, but fell short of advancing.

In the girls Division Two districts last week, Tippecanoe sophomore Alexis Cook placed fourth overall in the 50 Free with a time of 24.47, allowing her to qualify for the state meet this weekend. Claire Farrell of Carroll won the districts with a time of 24.13.

Cook came back in the 100 Free and again put up a solid finish in districts, placing seventh overall with a time of 53.36 which also allows her to beat the time and qualify for the state meet in this event also. Bethel junior Eiliana Wright could not advance to the state in this event, as she placed 14th overall with a time of 55.40.

In the 200 Free, Tippecanoe’s Arielle Arnett a senior headed to Oakland University to swim next season, placed tenth overall with a time of 1:55.65, which was low enough to qualify her for the state meet. Falling short of qualifying in that event was Tippecanoe freshman Nicole Downing, who finished in 2:17.84.

Arnett also put on a strong showing in the 500 Free at the districts, placing third overall with a 5:00.26 finish. Lucy Callard swam 4:51.83 to win the district, while Chaminade Julienne’s MacLeary Moran placed second at 4:59.48, less than one second ahead of Arnett. They will both swim again in this event at the state meet.

Tipp’s Tori Prenger placed 28th overall in the 100 Back with a time of 1:06.97.

Bethel’s Wright will be headed to the state meet in the 100 Fly, after finishing third overall in the 100 Fly. Wright swam 58.87 which did not auto qualify her by placing in the top two, but her time advanced her to the state.

The Tipp 200 Free Relay team placed 24th with a 1:57.04 at districts, while the 400 Relay team finished 12th overall with a time of 3:53.81. The 200 Medley team swam 1:57.25 which was good enough for 13th at districts.

*In the Boys Division Two districts, Tipp’s Ben Jans placed 24th with a time of 23.39 in the 50 Free, then came back with a 51.92 in the 100 Free, good enough for 26th overall.

In the 100 Back, Ryan Wall placed 19th with a 58.63, while in the 100 Breast, Greenon freshman Calvin Wise swam 1:01.71 which placed him 14th overall in the district.

Wise also competed in the 200 IM, placing eleventh overall with a 2:00.81, but his time was good enough to get him to state this weekend in Canton. Blazer finished 32nd in that event with a time of 2:19.88.

Tippecanoe also saw all three of their relay teams compete at the districts. In the 200 Free Relay, the Red Devils finished 12th with Bethel placing 21st. In the 400 Free, Tipp placed 12th with Bethel finishing 23rd and in the 200 Medley the Red Devils placed 16th.
