A desire to help others, and a knack for home repair, has inspired Park Layne resident, Joshua Harper, to open his own home-improvement business in his adopted hometown of New Carlisle. The goal of the young company, Harper’s Home Improvement, LLC is simple. “I want to help people unlock their home’s full potential,” explains Harper, and explains how his small business gives him that opportunity.

Harper’s Home Improvement, LLC is licensed and insured, and Harper is a member of the Association of Certified Handyman Professionals (ACHP). He has passed both the ACHP Evaluation Exam and Code of Conduct Exam, and earned a Garage Gator-ACHP certification.

Harper grew up learning home repair and renovation by helping his father and other family members who were in the construction business. He eventually decided to open his own home-improvement business after receiving several requests for help from home owners. Today, Harper receives help from the guy who taught him nearly everything he knows.

“I can do just about anything. But I also have a full-time job during the day, so I do home-improvement work mostly during the evening and weekends. Sometimes my father will pitch in and help me do jobs that are a little (more involved) so the work gets done sooner.”

The young business handles a large diversity of jobs. A list of some of the work Harper does is listed on the Harper’s Home Improvement, LLC Facebook page; however, the list is far from exhaustive.

Harper does nearly everything from faucet installation, to landscaping and small renovations. “No job is too big or too small,” says Harper, “But since I am only one guy, there are some jobs I may not be able to do. There are also some things, like electrical work, that I am not qualified to do...in which case I am more than happy to refer (clients) to someone who is able to help them. I’m not the type of person to take on jobs I can’t do. The most important thing to me is to help make the homeowner happy.”

Keeping costs low for his clients is also important to Harper, who recently purchased a home in Park Layne when he moved there from Springfield two years ago--bringing his new wife, Tina, and their young children with him.

“I give free estimates, and I try to make things as (affordable) as possible...and I make sure to use good-quality supplies (because) I know how important it is that the work I do lasts a long time,” explains Harper.

Harper’s Home Improvement, LLC may only be a small new business, but Harper is hopeful it will soon grow enough so he will be able to run it full-time. However long that may take, Harper is happy to be working in New Carlisle and says he and his wife plan to put deep roots down into the community.

“I’m happy my business is in New Carlisle. We love Park Layne and the people. This is a great community...our neighbors, the schools, our neighborhood are just the best...We really love living here, and we have no plans to ever go anywhere else,” comments Harper.
