It was story time for members of the Tecumseh Local School Board and those in attendance at Tuesday night’s BOE meeting.

Park Layne Elementary first grader Zachary Day read a selection from the book Mr. Whisper to demonstrate one of the results of the school’s Raptor Reader program.  School Librarian Ethel Blue and first grade teacher Mary McKinley run this afterschool program for several Park Layne students.
The teachers do this despite the fact that funding for the project expired some time ago.  Volunteering their time and effort certainly has made a difference to Zachary.  The board commended the young man’s efforts and he received a gift of a dinosaur book.
It was also diploma time, a long time coming indeed, for Thomas Harber who was awarded a special diploma. Harber, a veteran of World War II was unfortunately unable to attend the meeting to receive his sheepskin in person.
In other action Tuesday night the board:
Accepted the resignations of several employees, including Sharon Powers, principal of New Carlisle Elementary, who is retiring.  Also retiring are Linda Rinehart and Barbara McKenzie.
Approved the hiring of several staff members for the summer and migrant school programs, as well as two substitute teachers and a substitute custodian for the 2020-11 school year.
Announced that there will be a community meeting held in the Tecumseh Middle School  cafeteria on Wednesday, May 19 at 7 p.m.   Tecumseh Superintendent Jim Gay also noted that the high school graduation will take place May 30, 6 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
The board expressed its appreciation for the donation of 20 Apple computers for the use of elementary students throughout the district.  The donation was made by Charles and Linda Rinehart.  The machines are apparently mounted on carts and will be very useful.
Reminded the public that the CTC graduation will take place on May 20 at Kuss Auditorium in Springfield, and that several Tecumseh students would be participating.
Announced the joint meeting with New Carlisle city officials and the Bethel Township trustees would be held Aug. 30 at Smith Park.
The next school board meeting will be held one week later at 7 p.m.
