While the new Bethel Township, Clark County, Fire Station is getting high marks from fire officials, township employees and the public, there are still some last minute adjustments which need to be made.
Everything in the new facility was promised by contractors to be “first class”. The sound system inside the building, however, sounds like an off frequency radio playing through foil paper. That was proven to trustees and audience alike during the Bethel Township Trustee meeting May 11. “I told them at the time I thought they were using the wrong kind of speakers, especially the one in the bays,” said Bethel Fire Chief Jacob King. “They assured me they would sound fine. You have heard for yourself that they do not,” King said the company would be out to correct the problem. The trustees and King also discussed the installation of signs to inform drivers they are not permitted to drive into the southernmost driveway of the facility. That is only for use by emergency vehicles entering and exiting the building. In other action trustees: Learned from Financial Officer Melanie Cochran that the amount of the township’s Bureau of Worker’s Compensation decreased from $70,000 last year to $23,417.17 this year. Approved the transfer of a liquor license from Medway Country Store to Frederick Niffa which is doing business as Medway People Store. * Discussed the possibility of installing a fuel depot at the new fire station to allow the fueling of all township buildings on site. It would also also better management of fuel purchases. Approved the purchase of an eight month supply of gear cleaning supplies in the amount of $1,400 from ECO Labs. Discussed the possibility of installing security cameras at the old township building for the safety of employees. Set June 8, 7 p.m., as the date and time for the bid opening for the Styer Drive Bridge replacement. At the board’s April 27 meeting they approved the purchase of an ICON 24 x 28 shelter in the amount of $15,460 with David Williams and Assoc. to be reimbursed with Nature Works funding.
