By Nick Frazier Staff Writer Monday night's New Carlisle City Council meeting was all about the holidays. Mayor Richard Zsambok proclaimed Saturday, May 22 as Poppy Day, asking all residents to wear the Memorial Poppy. Seven days later will be another big day as the city celebrates the thirteenth annual Walk to Remember. The walk will begin at 7 a.m. in the Howard’s IGA parking lot and end at New Carlisle Cemetery. The Council encourages the public to join in. Noon will also mark the opening of the New Carlisle Pool. Public Service Director Howard Kitko said that the pool staff will be filling a void left by the closing of the YMCA by offering both water fitness classes and swim lessons. Classes will begin the week of June 7 and if you don’t get the flyer that is being sent, you can call 845-8116 or go to New Carlisle Pool on Facebook. Of course, the city offices will be closed on Monday, May 31 in observance of the holiday. Other items addressed by council included: *Planning Director Tim Howard explained the Green Tag program to notify residents of code violations. He stated that the tags were for communicating a problem and not a citation in themselves. *Mr. Howard also said there would be a letter sent to the owner of the property at Lake and Church Streets urging immediate action to make the property safe. *Sgt. Ralph Underwood of the sheriff’s substation announced the retirement of Deputy Dustin Cramblett and the arrival of Deputy Tim Leedy. *City Manager Kim Jones sent letters of thanks to New Carlisle Greenspace and to Mr. and Mrs. Al Raiteri for donations for the improvement of Henslee Park The next council meeting will take place on Monday, June 7 at 7:00 PM. Council will discuss ordinances at that meeting to set up separate expenditure tracking for the bikeway project and the placing of a renewal of the 1 mill public health levy on the November ballot. The city’s newsletter should be in the mail this week, or you can find more information at newcarlisle.net.
