Medway Elementary School held a “mini-relay” on Friday afternoon just hours before New Carlisle’s Relay For Life began.

Three teachers were selected to be “human hot dogs” and each child who brought in a donation was allowed to put ketchup on the hot dog of their choice.  The most popular teacher was Shonette Holbrook, Title 1 Aide at Medway.  When asked the reason for her popularity, she replied, “I guess ‘cause I give lots of hugs.”

The other two teachers selected to be “human hot dogs” were Jan Ruhe, Special Ed teacher, and third grade teacher Vicki Landess.  Landess is no stranger to Relay For Life.  Last year the students were told that if they made their goal in donations, she would kiss a cow.  They made their goal last year.

This year, the students were told that if they raised $1000 for Relay for Life, their principal, Chad Miller, would have his hair shaved the way they wanted.  The students raised $1407.60.  They chose a “Mr. T” haircut.

Kerri Rasor, a Medway parent, raised $470 and Bobbie Cornett, Medway Elementary’s secretary, raised $473.  The total raised by Medway Elementary was $2,835.96.
