Gastineau Field will be the place to be on Sunday, July 25, as the Miami Valley Roy Hobbs Over-30 baseball league will hold their annual all-star game in New Carlisle, bringing together the top players from each team in the annual all-star event.
The first pitch will be thrown at 1:30, but there will be plenty of pregame festivities before the teams take the field.
With the American League being the home team, there will be 32 players overall in the game, with the top four players from each of the eight teams in the league.
“You can expect to see pitching in the low 80’s with the top pitchers in the league here,” said New Carlisle Knights general manager Bob Alexander.
The opening ceremonies will begin at 1:10, and Alexander is hoping to have the Vice President/General Manager Gary Mayse of the Dayton Dragons in attendance.
This will be the third time that the all-star game will be played at Gastineau Field, and for the first time, the Knights will be charging admission, with the cost being $2 for grandstand seats.  Lawn seating will still be free for the fans.
“Because of the unusually high interest already shown for the game, it will be a way to generate a few dollars for the field upkeep and renovation,” Alexander said.
“We are hoping to have a great game this year, and there is better talent than in years past.  It will be a great time.”
Another first for the Knights is the possibility of having beer at the field, as the Knights have applied for and awaiting the return of the approved permit in order for beer to be served at Gastineau Field.  Alexander expects draft beer to be sold at the game.
“This is the finest diamond in the area, and it takes a great deal of money to keep it in great condition,” Alexander said.
The Knights manager is asking for people who want to reserve tickets for the game to email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and once an email conformation is sent out, you can mail in the money, or pick up the tickets at a future Knights game.
Other happenings in the game include a baseball card giveaway to all kids 12 and under, along with a 50/50 drawing and other in-game promotions.
* After their loss last week, the Knights saw their record drop to 1-9 overall, six games behind the American League North division leading Troy Yankees, who are 6-3.  In the American League South, the Dayton Ducks are 5-3, while the Miami Valley Rays are 5-7 overall.
The Knights return to the field at 6:30 on Wednesday, playing at Troy, then return home the following night the Dayton Athletics at 6:30 at Gastineau Field.
On Sunday, the Knights host the Miami Valley Rays at 1 p.m.
