City Public Service Director Howard Kitko told New Carlisle City Council that patching of potholes has been going slow, but it’s picking up. The rains had slowed crews down, but the recent sunny, hot weather got crews out on the streets more often.

 “With the weather being so nice and no rain, we’ve actually been pretty steady to get about ¾ of the city patched,” said Kitko.

Kitko told council that larger holes are beyond the capability of the city’s equipment and will be outsourced. If you see potholes that aren’t getting attention, you may call City Hall at 845-9493.

The pool, on the other hand, is doing great. “It’s by far exceeding our expectations,” said Kitko. The recent 90+ temperatures were bringing up to 300 visitors per day. “One day brought in over $2,000,” he said.

For those who don’t fancy the pool, City Manager Kim Jones reminded council members that the New Carlisle Public Library is a good place to beat the heat. “It’s a good place to get in out of the heat if you don’t have air conditioning,” said Jones. The library is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 8 pm and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm.

In official action, council passed two ordinances.

The first authorized the City Manager to enter into an agreement for cleaning services. Jones stressed that Mrs. Taylor is still doing the cleaning, but the city needed to have an agreement in writing.

The second authorized the City Manager to enter into a lease agreement for the placement of a cheese dispensing machine at the pool concession stand. Council Member Paul Shakro asked if the cheese machine would be profitable for the city. Kitko replied, “Most definitely. Cheese goes on everything down there.”

An emergency ordinance adopting the city’s Tax Budget was originally on the agenda, but, with the absence of Rick Lowrey and Mayor Dick Zsambok, there was not a quorum.
