New Carlisle Public Works Director Howard Kitko informed City Council at their meeting Monday evening that the municipal pool is operating in the black.
“Revenues through July 18 were $47,600, and expenses were $45,000,” said Kitko. “After you take out payroll, we’re about even.”
City Finance Director Richard Sexton added that the pool ran an $89,000 deficit in 2004.
Kitko also stated that the patching that was done on the pool has reduced seepage to nearly nothing. “We’re easily saving 40-50 gallons a day from the water department,” he said.
Council also addressed the two “temporary” food wagons in town. “They look like permanent structures with patios and everything,” said council member John Krabacher.
City Manager Kim Jones said that they have food service licenses, but the city has no ordinances to regulate them. “If we have a large number of complaints or if council wants to do something, we can pass legislation,” said Jones. “But at this time, there is no ordinance to regulate them.”
“I think this one stayed open all winter – the one at the Marathon,” said Kitko. “We probably will not allow that to happen again.”
“We don’t want to wake up some morning and find six of them in town,” said council member Rick Lowrey. “Do we want that many?”
Mayor Dick Zsambok asked Jones and City Law Director Miguel Pedrazza to investigate the issue and report at the next council meeting a time frame they would need to come up with legislation, and then council would schedule a work session.
