Often times, throughout history the mood of the country can be revealed through the popular music of the day. Likewise personal letters written by residents of a community, during a particular period in time can provide an accurate glimpse into the lives of those who have gone before. The New Carlisle Bicentennial Committee along with the New Carlisle Community Chorus have combined music and personal writings in the form of letters, spanning the past 200 years into a musical program called, “Letters From York”.
The program will be performed Sunday, Aug.1 at Smith Park beginning at 6:30.p.m. The program will feature songs relating to various periods from 1810 to 2010 and letters written by individuals who lived in what is now New Carlisle during the same time. Together, the music and written sentiments will tell a story that is not only unique, but exclusively about the home town we love so much. The audience will recognize the authors of the letters and music of the day, and when combined the result will be a dramatic presentation you won’t want to miss.
Please plan to attend another “signature” bicentennial event to celebrate the 200th birthday of New Carlisle!
