The Medway Area Historical Society took a step back in time when they met in June at a family cabin built by George Clark circa 1927 in Crystal Lake. George Clark, a scoutmaster for 62 years, invited qualifying scouts for outings at the cabin.
Special guests, Grandson Robert Clark, his wife and sister recalled memories of times spent in the cabin in their younger days. Clark donated a scout uniform, neckerchief and a Norman Rockwell plaque of his grandfather’s to the cabin. In August, the society will be looking back again. This time the MARS will meet in the Advance One Room School House located on Lake Road in New Carlisle that was restored by the Clark County Retired Teachers Association. Teachers schooled in methods of earlier times walk fourth grade students from area schools through a typical day. Linda Clements, director, will present the school history through pictures and dialogue. As summer months give way to September, the Medway baseball team sponsored by the MARS will have hung up their gloves, the weather will be cooling down and thoughts will be turning to fall activities. In September, the society will be involved during the Boston Fair Reenactment at the George Rogers Clark Park, in October, they will enjoy the annual carry-in dinner and in November, plans will be made for decorating the trees in the Medway Park for Christmas. That is- also the month members contribute items to the Food Pantry in New Carlisle. On Sept. 2, the last yard sale of the year will be held in Neff’s Greenhouse at L VP and Gerlaugh Road from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
