Jose Garcia, 33, of 3781 Woodbury Road, Medway, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault last week after striking the vehicle of a Clark County Police Department Deputy. The plea came Wednesday in Clark County Common Pleas Court.
Garcia was charged after running a stop sign at West National and Lake roads in Bethel Township on May 30 hitting the cruiser of Deputy Brian Melchi, and causing it to roll. Melchi was taken to the hospital and treated for a severe head laceration. Garcia’s blood alcohol level was .292, more than three times the legal limit, according to a sheriff’s report. Garcia was sentenced to two years in prison and is set to be deported to Mexico after serving his sentence, according to the sheriff’s office. He had originally been charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence, no operator’s license, a stop sign violation, resisting arrest and receiving stolen property, according to the report.
