Irma Zahl Brasseur, 86, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, following an illness.
Daughter of Alma and Carl P. Zahl, she was born in Schaumburg, Illinois, moving to New Carlisle in 1933, where she graduated from New Carlisle High School and furthered her education at Bryant & Stratton Secretarial College in Chicago, Illinois.
She married Norman A. Brasseur in 1946, and was happily married for 63 years. She and her husband built and operated Black Cat Bowling Lanes in New Carlisle. She worked as an executive secretary for Mercedes Benz and the Bendix Corporation. She also worked at her family’s business, Zahl’s Elevator & Feed Mill.
She and her husband retired to Clearwater, Florida, in 1983, where she enjoyed bridge, bowling, reading and traveling. She will be dearly missed by her four children, Linda (Roger) Gilcrest, Muncie, IN; Kenneth (Joey) Brasseur, Indianapolis, IN; David Brasseur, Muncie, IN; and Judith (Robert) Floyd, Palm Harbor, FL; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A private service to celebrate her life was held at Curlew Hills Memory Gardens in Palm Harbor, Florida. Memorials may be made to All Children’s Hospital, 501 6th Avenue, South, St. Petersburg, Florida, 33701, or a charity of your choice.
