At the December 27, 2016 meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees, the trustees approved a resolution accepting the final year-end amended certificate of estimated resources for 2016 for the Miami County Budget Commission. Fiscal Officer Deborah Watson noted that the largest variance from what she had reported earlier was a $2,200 decrease in the projected vehicle tax. She explained, “This happens because when residents of Parke Town and Carriage Trails register their vehicles, they report that they live in Bethel Township; so initially we are awarded the vehicle tax. However, since the developments are incorporated in Huber Heights, those funds are taken back from us and sent to Huber Heights.”
For the fire department, Fire Chief Andy Ehrhart reported that the department completed 25 runs from December 10, 2016 through December 23, 2016. The responses included one controlled burn brush fire. In addition, they responded to 16 emergency medical calls including one motor vehicle accident with injuries and one without injuries. The remaining calls were service calls, which required little assistance from the department.
For Planning and Zoning, Planning and Zoning Director Marty Caskey reported that no zoning certificates were applied for and none issued. He announced that the December Board of Zoning Appeals Meeting was cancelled due to a lack of a quorum. The three pending cases will be heard on January 26, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.
He also noted that the Bethel Zoning Commission met and unanimously approved a lot split and rezoning of 10.024 acres at 5700 SR 571. Both parcels are to be rezoned from A-2 General Agriculture to A-1 Domestic Agriculture. A public hearing on the case is scheduled for January 10, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. The trustees will then vote on the request at their normally scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m. the same evening.
In addition, the commission will meet on January 26, 2017 to hear a request to rezone 2.518 acres at 968 Bellefontaine Road from R-1AAA Residential to B-2 Office/Residential for the establishment of a Veterinary Clinic.
For Zoning Enforcement, Caskey said that there was only one case open at this time. He is working with the resident for the removal of a junk car that is in pieces on the property. For 2016, he addressed 27 zoning violations.
In regular business, Ehrhart announced that the township office would be closed on January 2, 2017 in observance of the New Year. The next meeting of the Bethel Township Trustees is scheduled for January 10, 2017 at 7:00 p.m.in the township meeting room.
