New Carlisle Historical Society Vice-President David McWhorter is organizing an event that will offer tours of the Madison St. School.

Former students of New Carlisle’s Madison Street Elementary School will have a chance to briefly walk their alma mater’s hallways once again.

On June 10, 2017 the New Carlisle Historical Society (NCHS) will spend the day giving tours of the storied building as part of a fundraising event to raise monies to purchase and install brand-new historical markers at each end of New Carlisle.

NCHS Vice-President David McWhorter says the historical markers would contain interesting information about New Carlisle’s history and add to the overall look of the city.

“The markers are really nice and will look great. It will also give people a chance to learn a little bit about New Carlisle, which is always nice.”

Tours of Madison Street School will be held throughout the day of June 10. Tours are free, but the NCHS requests participants make a suggested donation of $5.00 per adult. A video of the day will be available for purchase soon after the event.

NCHS members shared ideas such as having an old-time picnic, re-enacting old school pictures, inviting vendors, and collecting stories from former students at a planning meeting for the event held at Studebaker’s restaurant on Jan. 20.

More planning meetings to hash out details of the fundraiser will be held in the near future. Information about the meetings can be found on the New Carlisle Historical Society Facebook page or by contacting the Historical Society at http://newcarlislehistoricalsociety.org/.
