Haddix Rd HomocideVictim was related to one of the suspects

A 17 year-old and an 18 year-old were arrested Thursday night and charged with the murder of William Henson, the Mad River Township man found dead in his Haddix Road home on the morning of January 14. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Henson was related to the 17 year-old, who had lived with Henson at one time. While executing search warrants last night, January 15, the Sheriff’s Department recovered 38 firearms from the two alleged murderers in a Fairborn apartment complex that they allegedly stole from the victim.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly said a 17 year-old juvenile and 18 year-old Robert V. Winbush were arrested in Fairborn last night with the assistance of many other agencies. Kelly said the juvenile is reportedly Henson’s nephew, and that the teen had lived with Henson on Haddix Road at one time. Kelly said that the juvenile moved to the area from California with his parents, adding that the juvenile and his parents all lived with Henson at one time. Kelly said the juvenile was living on the streets of Fairborn, and his parents now live in Springfield. According to reports, the juvenile’s mother, Terri Baca, was the one to initially find her brother’s body. When asked if Baca could have known about the murder or if she was in any way involved, the Sheriff could not comment.

Kelly said it appears as if the juvenile and Winbush went to Henson’s residence with a plan to kill him and steal his extended collection of firearms, adding that Henson was an avid collector of weapons. According to the Sheriff, technicians from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation along with cyber crime detectives retraced Henson’s last steps and collected enough information to execute three search warrants in the city of Fairborn, which led to the arrest of the suspects at the Fairborn Apartment Complex.

Kelly said during the search of three Fairborn properties located at 340 Wallace Drive, 300 Williams Street, and 220 North Maple, that 38 rifles, assorted firearms, and thousands of rounds of ammunition were recovered. All of the weapons and ammunition belonged to the deceased, according to Kelly. Henson’s safe containing his checkbook and banking statements was also located in a dumpster within the apartment complex as well. Henson’s wallet, driver’s license, and cash were found during the search as well.

Sheriff Kelly said he enlisted the help of the Fairborn Police Department, the Regional Emergency Response Team, Ohio BCI, and prosecutors from Clark and Greene Counties. Kelly also added that agents from the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms are investigating the case. A SWAT Team was called in to assist with the arrest last night, as law enforcement was aware of the amount of weapons in the suspects’ possession. Kelly said everyone had been fortunate, as no officers or suspects were wounded during the arrests.

According to the Sheriff, the two suspects were already in the process of trying to sell the guns and ammunition, and his department believes that some of the guns have already been sold and exchanged for drugs. Kelly said he couldn’t be more proud of the way multiple agencies came together to result in the arrest of two alleged murderers less than 36 hours after the crime was reported. He also added that the intent to sell these weapons could have been catastrophic, as the suspects were reportedly attempting to sell them to “individuals who shouldn’t have weapons,” Kelly said.

“The combination of guns and ammunition that could have been turned loose on the streets could have wreaked havoc in southwest Ohio,” Kelly stated.

The 17 year-old and Winbush will face a Grand Jury, according to the Sheriff, who also said that he believes the two are linked to several other crimes in the Fairborn area.
